Chiltern Street W1 is just off the busy thoroughfare of Marylebone Road, quieter but no less sophisticated than Marylebone High Street a few streets away. Its fortunes changed again 125 years later when global hotelier André Balazs transformed the Grade II-listed fire station into Chiltern Firehouse, a five-star hotel and restaurant led by head chef Nuno Mendes, frequented by A-listers including the Beckhams, Orlando Bloom, Kylie Minogue and Kate Moss.

“Chiltern Street is a destination rather than a location, a real community,” adds boutique hair salon owner Billi Currie who flies the globe working on fashion shoots for Vogue and Tatler but is equally at home at number 47.
